JIS DISASTER RELIEF

Dear JIS Community

As we watch the horror unfold in West Sumatra and see the stunning numbers who have been affected by back-to-back earthquakes, we cannot help but be affected. Our hearts go out to the grieving and wounded as Indonesia suffers so much loss and seeks relief.

Caring and collaboration are cornerstones of our school identity and are embodied in the JIS ‘Our School’ identity statement. More important is the fact that most of us have already experienced and witnessed this caring and collaboration. We now have another opportunity to demonstrate these qualities.

‘JIS Peduli’/JIS Cares encapsulate our school response to individuals and communities in need. Our efforts at the moment are as follows:
  • We will make an immediate financial contribution through trusted humanitarian partners already on the ground in West Sumatra in order to ensure that JIS can provide some immediate support.
  • We will identify ways in which JIS - our student community in particular - can assist with longer term needs and/or rebuilding.
  • Our response will be coordinated through Ms. Trish Davies, Service Learning Coordinator (769.2555 x. 8036).
Our goals as a caring community are 1) to provide immediate victim assistance, 2) to support rebuilding projects that benefit children and education in devastated areas, and 3) to replenish funds for immediate disaster relief in future.

If you would like to join us in this effort by making a financial contribution, please look here for further information.

Thank you for your support and collaboration as we seek together to provide some relief for those who are suffering,

Monica N. Greeley
Head of School
